An IRGC commander told state television that the memorandum of understanding is effectively void. The commander cited Israel's continued presence in southern Lebanon, an alternative shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz, attacks on Iranian territory, and the continued withholding of frozen Iranian assets.
The commander also stated that the United States signed the memorandum with the intent of applying maximum pressure and used a two-week ceasefire period to complete a naval blockade while talks continued.
