Iranian media outlet says country must build nuclear weapon

A media outlet connected to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps published an article on Sunday stating that Iran has no choice but to develop a nuclear weapon. The article, titled "No choice but to build the atomic bomb," argued that Iran must negotiate from a position of strength.

It compared Iran's current situation to China's in the 1970s and said nuclear deterrence would allow Iran to reach a balance of power against the United States and Israel.

Agreement terms Under an interim Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this month, Iran agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors to regain access to its nuclear sites. The agreement followed the suspension of oversight last year and included a pledge that Iran would not develop a nuclear weapon.

The United States has called on Iran to pause all nuclear enrichment for 20 years.
