An Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack on 17 July struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Satellite imagery showed one MQ-9 Reaper destroyed on the apron and multiple Black Hawk helicopters damaged at the same location. The base is operated by Jordan and hosts three F-16 squadrons.
The United States has funded infrastructure upgrades at the site since 2019, and the facility has stored F-15, F-22, F-35 aircraft and MQ-9 Reapers.
Times analysis of satellite images identified significant damage to Black Hawk helicopters. Muwaffaq Salti lies in the eastern desert near Azraq and is described as holding the densest concentration of advanced U.S. airpower in the Levant. No casualties or further operational details have been released.
