Iranian Drone Hits Kuwait Airport Terminal, Killing One and Injuring 63 as US Conducts Strikes on Iranian Island and Talks Continue
An Iranian drone struck Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport, killing one Indian national and injuring 63 others. Kuwait suspended flights before resuming limited operations, while U.S. forces struck targets on Iran's Qeshm Island.
SemaforAn Iranian drone struck a passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport, killing one person and injuring at least 63 others. Kuwaiti officials said the strike hit Terminal 1. The fatality was an Indian national, India's foreign ministry said. Kuwait suspended all air traffic and diverted arriving flights.
The airport had only fully resumed service on Monday after earlier attacks during the war. Kuwait Airways later restarted operations.
Kuwait's military called the strike an act of criminal Iranian aggression. Iran's Revolutionary Guards denied responsibility. They said the incident resulted from an error in American Patriot air-defense systems that allowed a missile to land on the terminal after failing to intercept Iranian projectiles.
No publicly released evidence has documented the origin of the projectile that struck the terminal. The vessels or operators involved in related regional incidents have not been publicly identified by the U.S. government in statements reviewed.
U.S. forces struck a tanker and a communications tower on Iran's Qeshm Island. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday that negotiations to end the Middle East war had made no tangible progress. Araghchi told Lebanon's Al Mayadeen TV that communications with the United States remained open and that messages had been exchanged about stopping aggression against Beirut, but he added that no concrete advances had occurred.
He warned that any Israeli attack on Beirut would trigger a full-scale resumption of the conflict and said Iran's armed forces stood ready to strike Israel in that event.
President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that he believed the talks could produce a breakthrough over the weekend. "I hear the negotiation itself is going very well actually," Trump said. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpiles remained central to the discussions.
Washington has insisted that Tehran must surrender its near-weapons-grade material, curb its nuclear activities, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz before any agreement can take hold.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of playing with fire. A separate truce intended to halt fighting in Lebanon on April 17 has never been observed. Lebanese officials said Israeli strikes on Wednesday killed at least nine people in southern Lebanon, including two paramedics, while Hezbollah claimed a rocket attack on northern Israel in response to alleged Israeli violations.
Senior Hezbollah official Mahmud Qomati said the group would not accept a partial ceasefire limited to Beirut and Israeli territory.
