Iraqi Kata’ib Hizballah Commander Extradited to New York on Federal Terrorism Charges
Mohammad Al-Saadi, a commander of Kata’ib Hizballah, faces trial in New York after extradition this month. The indictment alleges nearly 20 attacks and plots across three continents.
Mohammad Al-Saadi, an Iraqi national and commander of Kata’ib Hizballah, was indicted Thursday on eight counts, the Justice Department said. He was extradited to New York this month and will face trial there. U.S. bank branches and against Jewish people in several European cities.
U.S. Government has also designated a foreign terrorist group. Court documents state Al-Saadi has furthered the goals of both organizations since at least 2017. Three sources familiar with the matter told NBC News that Al-Saadi discussed wanting to target Ivanka Trump in Florida.
The Justice Department did not mention those plans in the indictment or its news release. Ivanka Trump served as a senior White House adviser during President Trump’s first term and is married to Jared Kushner, who also held that role; she has not been involved in the current administration.
