Both companies operate in highly technical fields that have advanced rapidly with recent AI progress. Isomorphic Labs builds on work from Google DeepMind’s AlphaFold which won the 2024 Nobel Prize. Anduril develops autonomous systems for defense applications.
Neither company describes itself primarily as an artificial intelligence company despite the role of AI-related advances in their work. Isomorphic Labs focuses on using computational methods for drug discovery. Anduril concentrates on defense technology including autonomous weapons and systems.
Hassabis told Fortune that Isomorphic Labs prioritizes outcomes over specific algorithms. "On the Isomorphic side, we care about the outcome," Hassabis said. "First and foremost, it’s about curing diseases or making a breakthrough on a particular property we care about.

Thrive partner Philip Clark noted the importance of Anduril showing results in tests and combat. Both companies now face periods where measurable outcomes in their respective fields will determine future success. Success for each is described as relatively binary over time.
