Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the troops had moved to commanding terrain and were striking Hezbollah positions directly. The warnings covered villages near Nabatieh and came one day after military delegations from Israel and Lebanon met at the Pentagon.

A truce formally took effect on April 17 but has not been observed by either side. Both Israel and Hezbollah continue to accuse the other of violations. Israeli strikes in the southern city of Tyre killed 11 people on Friday, Lebanon's health ministry said. The ministry also reported that Israeli attacks have killed at least 3,355 people since March 2.

Hezbollah said it fired rockets at the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona and ambushed Israeli soldiers near Ghandouriyeh, claiming it forced the troops to withdraw. It also reported firing rockets at an Israeli military base in northern Israel.

Hundreds of displaced residents have gathered in Tyre's old city, sleeping in cars or tents after shelters reached capacity.
