US-Brokered Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire Calls for Hezbollah Withdrawal From Lebanon Border, Lebanese Army Deployment South of Litani

Israel and Lebanon agreed Wednesday to implement a conditional ceasefire that requires Hezbollah to withdraw all its operatives south of the Litani River and allows the Lebanese army to assume full control of designated pilot security zones inside Lebanon.

The agreement, reached through U.S.-mediated talks at the State Department, states that the ceasefire is contingent on a complete cessation of Hezbollah fire.

According to joint statements reported across multiple outlets, the two sides also agreed to hold further direct negotiations aimed at building confidence and resolving other outstanding issues. All parties reaffirmed that the future of the relationship between Israel and Lebanon must be decided by the two sovereign governments and rejected any attempt by any state or non-state actor to hold Lebanon’s future hostage.

The ceasefire follows an earlier agreement reached last month that failed to halt hostilities. Israel had invaded Lebanon in March after Hezbollah fired across the border in support of Iran. Lebanon separately reported that Israeli strikes in the south killed at least two paramedics.

An Iranian missile and drone attack struck Kuwait’s international airport on June 3, 2026, killing one person and wounding dozens. Debris from intercepted projectiles caused significant damage to Terminal 1. Flights resumed the same day at Terminal 4 for Kuwait Airways and Terminal 5 for Jazeera Airways.

U.S. Central Command described its strikes on Iranian military positions as “self-defense strikes.” According to U.S. statements, sustained strikes inside Iran have ended because Operation Epic Fury is over. The U.S. said its actions destroyed Iran’s defense industrial base, reduced missile launchers and drone stockpiles, destroyed remaining air force assets, and eliminated its conventional navy.

The U.S. redirected 125 commercial vessels amid its blockade on Iranian ports and vessels. CENTCOM disabled another six vessels to ensure compliance. President Trump called on Arab states, NATO partners and others to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of global crude normally passes.
