Israel is expected to open a resident embassy in Fiji over the weekend. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar is scheduled to travel to Suva for the inauguration. The planned mission follows Fiji’s establishment of an embassy in Jerusalem in 2025. Fiji’s Cabinet approved the Israeli embassy in March 2026.
The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1970. They have cooperated through Israeli agricultural and technical assistance programs. Fiji cited consistent support for Israel in international forums, including the United Nations, when announcing the reciprocal mission.
The embassy will give Israel a permanent diplomatic presence in the Blue Pacific region. Officials in both countries have described the relationship as focused on security, climate change, agriculture, and emerging technologies.
