Israel's embassy in Australia released a four-page statement to the media ahead of Labor's national conference in Adelaide this week. The document criticizes expansions in the draft platform that go beyond the 2023 version's call for Palestinian state recognition, a measure the Albanese government implemented in September 2025 with Canada and the United Kingdom.
The new draft adds opposition to Israeli illegal settlement activity and settler violence while condemning recent laws that approve the death penalty for Palestinians who murder Israelis.
It expresses support for the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court and suggests sanctions as necessary on illegal settlements, though it stops short of concrete actions such as recognition. The Australian Palestinian Advocacy Network has submitted its own suggestions calling for stronger commitments on Australia's defence exports to Israel and further action on illegal settlements.
The federal government has stated it is not manufacturing or exporting ammunition or weapons to Israel and has not done so for more than five years.
Minister for International Development and Multicultural Affairs Anne Aly said she had not yet seen Israel's complaints in full but that the conference would see the proposal fully debated.
