Israel shared intelligence with the United States indicating a new Iranian plan to assassinate President Trump. The information reached U.S. officials earlier this week. U.S. agencies had not been tracking the threat before receiving the Israeli information and have not yet completed a vetting process.
The Wall Street Journal reported the intelligence on Thursday. President Trump stated at the NATO summit in Ankara that Iran wants to assassinate him. “They want to take out the US leader — me. I’m on whatever list.
I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists,” he said. President Trump traveled to Turkey aboard a Qatari aircraft and returned on a separate Air Force One. The White House stated the aircraft change was intended as a security measure.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was instructed not to proceed to Israel as originally scheduled. President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have held at least two calls since the warning, including one on Thursday, and plan to meet in person. Banners reading “WE WILL KILL TRUMP” were displayed during the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
