Israeli aircraft struck targets in Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday, days after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon took effect. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the strikes targeted Hezbollah command centers and were carried out in response to fire directed toward northern Israel earlier that day. Hezbollah did not immediately claim responsibility for any firing.

The Lebanese and Israeli governments renewed a ceasefire agreement during talks in Washington. Beirut has said it hopes the renewed truce will bring an end to the broader conflict. Israel had already carried out two strikes on the same southern Beirut suburbs since an earlier ceasefire took effect on April 17.

Daily strikes have continued over southern Lebanon, and clashes between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops have also been reported. Pakistan's interior minister was in Tehran on Sunday as part of efforts to restart negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Iranian state media reported that the minister delivered a message from Pakistan's army chief to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

U.S. military said it had shot down two more Iranian drones over the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. U.S. Central Command stated the drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.
