Israeli Airstrikes Kill 27 in Lebanon After Hezbollah Attack

A U.S. official wrote on X that Hezbollah broke the ceasefire. The post stated Hezbollah broke the ceasefire, not Israel, and described Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Hezbollah said its fighters engaged Israeli troops attempting to advance on Lebanese territory.
The group stated it would not tolerate any attempt by the enemy to seize land and expand its occupation. The Lebanese army said the Israeli attacks were intended to block any solution that would restore stability. The army stated the continuation of brutal Israeli attacks aims to obstruct any solution that would allow for restoring stability in Lebanon.
President Trump told reporters earlier in the week at the G7 summit that he was unhappy with Israel’s handling of the conflict. He said he was not happy with the way Israel has handled themselves with Lebanon and Hezbollah. Trump warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he has to be more responsible with respect to Lebanon and urged him to accept the ceasefire on Friday.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Netanyahu instructed the military to hold its fire on Saturday after coordination with the United States, Channel 12 news reported. Netanyahu said he would not withdraw Israeli troops from southern Lebanon, the network added.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it was closing the Strait of Hormuz in response to the Israeli strikes, reversing an earlier agreement to reopen the waterway. A U.S. Central Command spokesperson said Iran does not control the strait. U.S. Central Command posted on X that 55 commercial vessels had moved through the waterway on Saturday.
Smoke rose from Israeli airstrikes on the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh. Rescuers gathered at the site of another strike in the town of Qannarit, and smoke was visible over the town of Shweikin after additional strikes.
