Israeli Forces Destroy Hezbollah Infrastructure in Southern Lebanon Town
The Israeli military has conducted operations in El-Khiam, a Shia town in southern Lebanon, destroying buildings to reach underground Hezbollah facilities. A visit to the site revealed a 25-meter shaft leading to a command center containing communications equipment, weapons and uniforms.
Inside the remains of a small clothing store, where some articles of clothing still hung on racks, a 25-meter shaft was found leading to an underground Hezbollah command center beneath the floorboards. Communications equipment, weapons and uniforms were located inside the facility.
The operations reflect a shift in Israeli military thinking after October 7. The approach seeks to deny the enemy not only the desire but the capability to strike.
Officers operating in the area stated there is little doubt that the country has crossed a psychological Rubicon with this approach. The destruction in El-Khiam is presented as an example of the new security policy in southern Lebanon. The military has focused on eliminating underground facilities used by Hezbollah in civilian areas.
This includes command centers hidden beneath civilian buildings such as the clothing store in El-Khiam.
