The Israel Defense Forces killed several Hamas operatives in northern Gaza on Tuesday, the military said. Soldiers identified an armed Hamas cell operating near their positions and struck it to neutralize the immediate threat, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

In a separate incident the same day, troops near the cease-fire-established line identified individuals engaged in suspicious activity who then advanced toward the forces. An Israeli Air Force aircraft struck the suspects, killing one operative in the initial attack and another as he attempted to flee.

The military said it took steps ahead of the strikes to reduce harm to civilians, including the use of precision-guided munitions and aerial surveillance. Israeli forces remain deployed in Gaza in accordance with the U.S.-brokered cease-fire agreement.

The statement added that the forces will continue to eliminate immediate threats.

The cease-fire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, ending a two-year war. The conflict began when Hamas, other Palestinian groups and civilians from Gaza crossed into the northwestern Negev on Oct. 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people, wounding thousands and abducting 251 hostages.

The military's statement on Wednesday reiterated that operations are conducted only against immediate threats under the terms of the agreement still in force.
