Israeli Forces Strike New Hamas Military Chief in Gaza City

Israeli forces carried out a strike Tuesday night on a residence in Gaza City, killing the individual identified as the new military chief of Hamas. The strike occurred eleven days after an earlier operation that removed the previous military chief. Officials had announced the attempt Tuesday night, and the agencies provided confirmation the following day.

The October 2025 ceasefire agreement requires Hamas to complete disarmament before Israeli withdrawal and the deployment of an international security force. Reports indicate Hamas has offered only partial disarmament tied to prior Israeli withdrawal from portions of the enclave.

An international military force intended to replace both Hamas and Israeli forces has not yet formed. A technocratic committee established to oversee daily governance has not entered the territory. Israeli forces have continued targeted operations against Hamas leadership while responding to reported provocations.

Palestinian health authorities stated that hundreds of people have been killed in strikes since the ceasefire began in early October. The humanitarian situation remains difficult, with residents dependent on external aid and facing shortages of sanitation and shelter.
