Israeli Government Approves Naming Section of Route 443 After David Levy
The cabinet approved the change on July 16 to honor former foreign minister David Levy. A reservoir was also named after him earlier that week.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Transportation and Road Safety Minister Miri Regev put forward the measure to commemorate the late foreign affairs minister David Levy and the Tribe of Levi’s historical connection to the region. Route 443 links Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Modi’in, Judea and Samaria, and the Judean foothills.
The renamed section runs between the Ben Shemen Interchange in central Israel and the Beituniya-Givat Ze’ev Junction outside Jerusalem.
The Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety will coordinate with the Defense Ministry to update signage. The Government Secretariat will publish the new name in the official gazette, Reshumot. Four days earlier, Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen decided to name the newly inaugurated Shluhot Reservoir after Levy.
Levy immigrated from North Africa to Israel’s Beit She’an region in 1957. He served as deputy prime minister, foreign minister, construction and housing minister, and aliyah and integration minister, and sat in the Knesset for 37 years from 1969 to 2006.
