President Isaac Herzog hosted a ceremony on July 12 at the president's residence in Jerusalem marking 50 years since Operation Entebbe. -Gen. Eyal Zamir joined Entebbe survivors, their families, and veterans of the 1976 mission.
"Operation Yonatan [Entebbe] was one of the most extraordinary operations in Israel's history," Herzog said. "It was also a moral declaration.
The event occurred amid renewed U.S.
-Iran strikes. Netanyahu addressed the current war, stating that the 1976 operation showed it is possible to stand firm against terrorists. He said Israel is dismantling the Iranian axis of evil. Zamir linked the anniversary to Israel's actions since October 7.
He said the military continues to secure citizens' safety near and far, following the same responsibility established at Entebbe. Netanyahu noted that the spirit of the operation continues to guide Israeli soldiers. The official 50th anniversary of the rescue took place on July 3 with additional memorials and addresses.
