Israeli singer Noam Bettan met with President Isaac Herzog on Monday after placing second at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. The meeting occurred one hour after Herzog accepted credentials from five new ambassadors. Bettan arrived with members of the Israeli Eurovision team.
Herzog asked the group to introduce themselves and describe their experiences. Team members reported that performers from countries not aligned with Israel approached them backstage to express admiration for Bettan's performance. Bettan stated that a sense of unity and solidarity had helped him deliver his strongest performance.
" Herzog said he watched the contest on Saturday night and cheered as the votes were announced. The president noted that music can help reduce animosity between groups. More than 20 journalists attended the meeting with Bettan, compared with three reporters at the ambassador credential ceremony earlier that day.
