Lebanese civil defence recovered three bodies after an Israeli strike on the Ghobeiry area of Beirut’s southern suburbs. The agency said search, rescue and debris removal operations are ongoing. The National News Agency reported 15 people wounded and damage to nearby buildings and shops.
Lebanon accused Israel of spraying the chemical herbicide glyphosate on several southern border villages on February 1. Soil samples from Aita al-Shaab, Ras an-Naqoura and al-Dhaira showed concentrations up to 22,750 microgrammes per gramme. A second complaint stated that Israeli forces struck a Lebanese military vehicle on the Kfar Tebnit-Al-Khardali road on June 6, killing a brigadier general, a captain and a soldier.
Lebanon said both incidents undermine Washington-brokered negotiations focused on confidence-building measures and Israeli withdrawal behind internationally recognised borders. The complaints were submitted to the UN Security Council. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said its foreign minister spoke by phone with his Egyptian counterpart for the second time in 24 hours about efforts toward an understanding between Washington and Tehran.
