Israeli Strike Hits House at Srifa Cemetery Entrance After Hezbollah Resumes Fighting

An Israeli strike demolished a house at the entrance to the Srifa cemetery in southern Lebanon and damaged many graves, Le Monde reported. Fresh graves have been prepared for 14 victims previously buried elsewhere, including seven Hezbollah fighters, five Amal party members and two civilians.

Hussein Fakih, a 10-year-old boy from Srifa, has visited his cousin Ali's grave every day since returning to the village.

Ali, a 23-year-old laborer, was the first Hezbollah fighter killed in an Israeli airstrike six days after fighting resumed on March 2. His five closest friends were also killed while fighting with the group. During the 2026 conflict, 47 Srifa residents died.

All were fighters or first responders except for six members of the Sayyed family, who were killed on the day the ceasefire was announced. The ceasefire protocol was agreed between the United States and Iran on June 14. Abou Saleh visited the cemetery with his wife to place flowers on the graves of his sons Ali, killed in the 2024 war, and Ramzi, killed on May 30.

Forty-five graves have been added to the martyrs' plot in Srifa since the 2024 war. Hussein Fakih's family, including his father Ali Fakih, 51, his mother Samia, 45, and his sister Lamis, 13, had been displaced to the village of Barja as of June 21.
