An Israeli strike on a military vehicle on the Khardali-Nabatieh road killed a brigadier general, a captain and a soldier on June 6, 2026, Lebanon’s army said. The army identified the dead as Brigadier General Wassam Sabra, Captain Elie Khoury and soldier Hussein Ghozal.

An Israeli air strike on the village of Saksakiyah in the Sidon district killed six people and wounded four others, the National News Agency reported.

A separate Israeli drone strike on a car on the highway in Deir al-Zahrani in the Nabatieh district killed one person. Israel renewed forced displacement orders for the villages of Armati, Mashgara, Kafr Huna, Sajad and Ansariya, directing residents to move north of the Zahrani River.

Hezbollah said its fighters struck a Merkava tank at the Blat outpost in the Bint Jbeil area with an Ababil swooping drone and claimed a confirmed hit.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack on the military vehicle as a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and of international laws and norms. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called the strike a heinous crime and an attack on Lebanon and all Lebanese people, and extended condolences to the families of the three soldiers and to the army.

Hezbollah described the attack on the soldiers as a heinous crime and accused the Lebanese government of exposing the country to bloodshed through its complete surrender to the enemy’s demands in Washington.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect on April 17, 2026, but has never been fully respected. A further conditional truce was announced by Lebanese and Israeli envoys this week in Washington. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem rejected the Washington agreement because it did not include Hezbollah or provide for Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon.

More than 50 Lebanese army soldiers or officers have been killed since the start of the conflict on March 2, 2026, Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem reported from Beirut. The death of a brigadier general marked the first time such a high-ranking officer has been killed. A few weeks earlier, more than 13 national security personnel were killed.

The army has withdrawn its troops from southern villages and towns that Israeli forces are approaching. At least 3,558 people have been killed and 10,870 others injured in Israeli attacks across Lebanon since March 2, 2026, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. 2 million people have been displaced.

Israeli troops have occupied a swathe of southern Lebanon and seized around a fifth of the country. The fighting has killed at least 29 Israeli soldiers and three civilians. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected comments by President Aoun that Beirut was a bargaining chip for Tehran.

“Had Lebanon been a bargaining chip for Iran, we’d have a deal long ago,” Araghchi posted on social media on June 6. ” The latest outbreak of conflict began at the beginning of March 2026 after Hezbollah said it was acting in support of Tehran.
