A regional airport in Ishikawa prefecture will adopt a Pokemon theme as part of recovery work following the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake. The changes include new attractions, a renamed terminal, and themed services running through 2029.
EuronewsA regional airport in Japan's Ishikawa prefecture will receive a Pokemon-themed renovation as part of recovery efforts after the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake. Pokemon-themed attractions and events are scheduled to continue through 30 September 2029.
The four-storey terminal will display 111 flying-type Pokemon characters. A Pikachu figure atop an airplane model will stand in the atrium, while a mural titled A Bright Future will appear in the arrivals lobby. Pillars and walls on the first and second floors will carry additional Pokemon images, and information signs will feature the characters in airport settings.
The project follows the magnitude 7.6 Noto Peninsula earthquake that killed hundreds and injured thousands in 2024. Officials said the theme aims to bring smiles to children affected by the disaster. Travelers will be able to purchase themed pancakes and drinks at the An-non Restaurant. A gift shop on the second floor will sell limited-edition T-shirts, keychains, and luggage items.
A tour bus decorated with Sky of Hope designs will begin weekend and holiday service in mid-July, linking Kanazawa Station, the airport, and Wajima City.
In February, Pokemon's first permanent theme park opened inside Yomiuriland in Tokyo.
