Japan’s Defense Ministry has rejected Chinese claims that the Self-Defense Forces harassed a Chinese aircraft carrier strike group during more than 40 days of far-seas combat training. The CCTV report said the Liaoning carrier group maintained a high state of alert, launched carrier-based fighter aircraft for combat sorties, adjusted combat formations, and responded professionally to Japan’s actions.
The exchange marks the latest in a series of public statements between the two governments over military activity in the region.
