Japanese Sailor Prepares for 2028 Solo Around-the-World Yacht Race

A 40-year-old Japanese sailor has purchased a yacht and registered to compete in the 2028 Vendee Globe, a solo, nonstop, unassisted around-the-world race held every four years. The sailor, identified as Masatomo Suzuki, would become the second Japanese person to finish the event if he completes the course.

Suzuki is scheduled to sail in a solo transatlantic race in November that serves as a required qualifier for the Vendee Globe. The 2028 edition is described in event materials as the next opportunity for competitors to attempt the full circumnavigation under the race rules.
