Jay-Z's concert at Yankee Stadium began after midnight Monday following a several-hour lockdown triggered by a reported security breach. The performance had been scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET with doors opening at 6 p.m.
A large group pushed through checkpoints, according to an unnamed police source cited by ABC7 Eyewitness News. Authorities then restricted entry and exit at the stadium. Jay-Z addressed the crowd once the show started.
He stated there were approximately 10,000 people outside when the doors were closed. "They closed the door for you guys' safety and everyone's safety outside. There's 10,000 people outside; I don't want to start the music and people get trampled.
I'm really sorry for the inconvenience, but I had to make sure everyone was OK. I appreciate your patience," Jay-Z said. The final night featured guest appearances by Beyoncé, Rihanna, Usher, Teyana Taylor, Jermaine Dupri, Pharrell Williams, Fat Joe, Jeezy, Pusha T, and Jadakiss.
