Jaylen Brown Tells ESPN Commentator to Retire After Defending Favorite Season Comment
Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown stood by his statement that the 2025-26 season was his favorite despite the team's first-round playoff exit. Brown responded to criticism from an ESPN commentator by suggesting the commentator retire. Brown was fined $50,000 by the NBA after saying officials had an agenda against him.
nypost.comBoston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown said the 2025-26 season was his favorite of his career even after the team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. The Celtics lost a 3-1 series lead against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brown had previously said on a livestream that officials have an agenda against him, for which the NBA later fined him $50,000. "I say this and I stand on this again.
Clip this up. This was my favorite season of my career," Brown said. "Like, I will say it even louder. I stand on it. " Brown explained that he considered the season his favorite because his teammates grew and the team had a largely successful year despite many predictions against the Celtics from the start.
An ESPN commentator said on Thursday that Brown needed to be quiet. The commentator added that Brown should go on vacation unless he was trying to get traded. Brown reshared the clip on his X account and replied directly.
"I’ll ‘be quiet’ / stop streaming if you ‘be quiet’ and retire let’s give the people what they want," Brown wrote. The commentator responded on X that he had love for Brown and was offering advice after the tough end to the season. "Folks are looking out for you and you don’t even realize it," the commentator wrote.
Brown scored 33 points on 44.4 percent shooting with nine rebounds and four assists in the Game 7 loss. Jayson Tatum missed that game with a leg issue. Brown said on the livestream that any perceived rift with the Celtics was unfounded.
"I hate that our president of basketball operations even had to respond to this," Brown said. "Me and Brad have a great relationship. I love Boston.
Brown played without Tatum in the decisive Game 7 on May 2, 2026 at TD Garden in Boston. The forward said the season remained his favorite because of the growth he saw in teammates around him.
