JD.com Founder Says Delivery Workers Will Shift to Robot Repair Roles
Richard Liu said at an APEC forum that the company will shift its 700,000 delivery workers into office-based repair and maintenance jobs. Contracts with 120 schools support the retraining effort. The comments follow an earlier pledge against layoffs from automation.

com, said Sunday that the company is moving its 700,000 delivery workers into office-based roles repairing and maintaining robots. Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO forum, Liu described several "Nirvana Plans" to "white-collarize" the blue-collar workforce.
He said workers will no longer handle deliveries in the age of AI but will instead troubleshoot robots from offices and will not have to work nearly as hard.
com has signed contracts with 120 schools across China to provide retraining for these roles, Liu said. He added that he is advocating for an internationally recognized protocol on AI and robot adoption so that robots do not deprive people of the right to work.
com would not fire any employee whose job is replaced by robots and would instead retrain and reassign them.
