He stated it was “impossible to mount a defense” due to continuous noise in the Special Housing Unit.
Epstein alleged that guards would not file a report if his cellmate beat him. His cellmate was convicted murderer and former New York police officer Nicholas Tartaglione. Epstein was found dead in his cell on August 19, 2019.
After his death, the floor of his cell was littered with nooses and noose-making materials, according to Tartaglione. Epstein met with multiple defense lawyers in marathon sessions while in jail. The notes were written during those meetings.
