Routine seawater sampling conducted on 18 and 19 May at Plemont, Grouville, Harve des Pas and Victoria Pool detected unacceptable bacteria levels. Infrastructure and Environment attributed the results to significant rainfall on 17 and 18 May that produced land runoff into coastal waters.

Jersey restarted weekly testing across 16 bays and will continue the program until 21 September. Results are published automatically on an interactive map maintained by the department.

Staff advised residents and visitors to avoid entering the sea for at least 48 hours after heavy rainfall events. Beaches will be re-sampled on Tuesday and Wednesday to determine current conditions.
