Jerusalem and Tel Aviv-Yafo approved Israel's first municipal digital wallet on Monday. The system, called MuniBox, was developed by the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel together with Paybox. The platform allows residents to manage education payments, municipal property taxes, and other local services in one mobile app.
Officials said the service will expand to additional municipalities in the coming months.
MuniBox currently covers school fees, after-school programs, summer camps, and property taxes. Future versions are expected to add parking payments, veterinary services, and other municipal transactions. "Jerusalem is proud to be the first municipality in Israel to implement MuniBox," said the mayor of Jerusalem.
" "MuniBox represents a major milestone in the modernization of local government services in Israel," said the chairman of the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel. " The chief executive of Paybox stated that the partnership shows how fintech can simplify interactions between citizens and public institutions.
Officials described the wallet as a comprehensive digital gateway between local authorities and residents.
