Joe Clarke won gold in the men's kayak cross at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Oklahoma City, bbc.co.uk reported. The 33-year-old British athlete completed the individual time trial in 46.54 seconds on the opening day of competition. Clarke said the result came after a difficult stretch.
"It feels amazing. I've not been running the best the past couple of days and I tweaked my neck a little bit," he said. " The victory brings Clarke's total to seven world titles across events. He won silver in the kayak cross at Penrith last year.
Lois Leaver took bronze in the women's kayak cross individual. The 24-year-old finished 0.12 seconds off the gold medal time with a run of 51.17 seconds. The championships are being held at the canoe slalom venue scheduled for use at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
