Target issued a recall notice for its Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix on May 6, 2026, after the product's manufacturer discovered a potential salmonella risk in a seasoning ingredient. Illinois-based John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc.

Announced a voluntary recall of several snack products the same day due to the potential presence of salmonella in a seasoning mix produced by a third-party supplier. That seasoning mix was made with dry milk powder manufactured by California Dairies, Inc. that had been previously recalled.

"The affected seasoning tested negative for Salmonella prior to use; however, the Company is taking this action as a precautionary measure," John B. Sanfilippo & Son said in its recall announcement. The company added that it has not received any reports of illnesses connected with the recalled items.

The recall impacts Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix in 8-ounce packages. 5-ounce and 16-ounce packages, Squirrel Brand Travelers Mix in 16-ounce packages, Fisher Tex Mex Trail Mix in 30-ounce packages, Southern Style Nuts Hunter Mix in 30-ounce packages, and Southern Style Nuts Gourmet Hunter Mix in 23-ounce and 36-ounce packages.

The Fisher, Squirrel Brand, and Southern Style Nuts products were sold in retail stores, through e-commerce, and on QVC.

The voluntary action follows a series of similar recalls across several brands nationwide prompted by the earlier California Dairies, Inc. dry milk powder recall. Most people infected with salmonella experience symptoms including abdominal pain, fever, headache, watery diarrhea that may also have blood or mucus, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.

Symptoms usually begin six hours to six days after ingesting the bacteria, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. People typically recover without treatment after four to seven days. Some individuals, particularly children under the age of 5, adults 65 and older, or those with weakened immune systems, may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization.
