Jon Jones watched UFC Freedom 250 from outside the card. The event took place at the White House with 85,000 fans at the Ellipse and drew 34 million global viewers, yardbarker.com reported. Jones said the card humbled him.
"It really showed me — it humbled me, and it showed me that our sport is at a prestigious level right now," he stated. He contrasted the current status of mixed martial arts with its earlier years. "When I first started MMA, we weren't allowed to compete in New York state," Jones said.
"People looked at it as taboo, a very weird thing to do. " Jones added that he is grateful to be viewed as one of the sport's historical greats. "I'm grateful to be considered one of the best in this sport's history," he said.
The relationship between Jones and the UFC has been strained in recent months, yardbarker.com reported. UFC president Dana White has not shown urgency in booking Jones for a fight.
