Jonathan Toews, Gabriel Landeskog and Rasmus Dahlin Named Finalists for Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy

Forwards Jonathan Toews of the Winnipeg Jets and Gabriel Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche, along with Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, were named finalists for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy on Monday. The award recognizes sportsmanship and perseverance in the NHL. Voting is conducted by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

5-year absence due to health issues, including long COVID and chronic inflammatory response syndrome. He signed a one-year deal with his hometown team, the Winnipeg Jets. Toews played in all 82 of the Jets' regular-season games, scoring 11 goals and adding 18 assists, reaching double digits in goals for the 16th time in his 16 NHL seasons.

Dahlin's fiancée, Carolina Matovac, suffered heart failure while on vacation in France last summer and spent several weeks on life support. She eventually received a heart transplant, which required months in hospital and rehab. Matovac later revealed she had lost the couple's unborn child, and she was deemed healthy enough to join Dahlin in Buffalo in March.

Landeskog missed three full seasons due to knee issues after playing through injury during the Colorado Avalanche's 2022 Stanley Cup run. He underwent four major knee procedures, including a knee cartilage replacement in May 2023. Landeskog became the first player to return to the NHL after that procedure when he rejoined the Avalanche during the 2025 playoffs, though his first full season back included broken ribs after crashing into the net in January.
