Jordan Downs Eight Iranian Missiles After U.S. Strikes on Iran

Jordanian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed eight Iranian missiles that entered the country's airspace on Thursday. The missiles were launched toward Jordanian territory, according to a Jordanian military source cited by Al Jazeera. No civilians were injured and no infrastructure was damaged.

-used Al Azraq Air Base in Jordan. The reports described strikes on military communications systems, radar installations and fuel storage facilities at the base. U.S. forces have conducted repeated strikes against Iranian military infrastructure along Iran’s southern coast in recent days.

The targets included air defense systems, radar installations, missile sites and drone facilities. Washington stated the operations are intended to reduce threats to international shipping and protect freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting U.S.

Military facilities and assets in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait. Jordan hosts U.S. military personnel and facilities. Jordanian authorities did not identify the intended targets of the intercepted missiles.

Neither the Jordanian government nor the U.S. military immediately issued further public comment on the interceptions.
