The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the campaign of Alaska Senate candidate Dan J. Sullivan, @ABC reported July 3, 2026. Federal investigators are examining potential wire fraud or conspiracy tied to claims that the challenger is attempting to confuse voters because his name matches that of incumbent Sen.
Dan S. Sullivan. The probe comes after Alaska’s election office determined earlier this month that Dan J. Sullivan’s candidacy was not in good faith and was intended to compromise the ballot’s fairness.
The office removed him from the ballot, but a state judge ruled last Friday that he is eligible to appear. The Alaska Supreme Court upheld that ruling in an order released Monday. Alaska holds a non-partisan top-4 primary on August 18, 2026, in which the top four vote-getters advance to the general election regardless of party.
Dan J. Sullivan, a retired teacher with no political experience, sued the state over the removal decision. ” It remains unclear who might face any charges in the federal investigation. NBC News was the first outlet to report the probe.
