K2 Airways Boeing 737 Cargo Plane Loses Contact Off Pakistan Coast

A K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo aircraft disappeared during a flight from Sharjah to Karachi after losing contact with air traffic controllers following a rapid descent off Pakistan's coastline. GB News reported that the plane vanished yesterday with five crew members still unaccounted for.

Pakistan's Airport Authority confirmed the freight flight had departed the United Arab Emirates bound for Karachi.

Minutes before the descent, the crew reported problems with the aircraft's navigation systems. " Radar operators observed a sudden loss of altitude three minutes after that report, after which all contact was lost. The final data transmission placed the aircraft 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.

Flightradar24 data showed the plane dropped 5,000 feet in less than 60 seconds before plunging from 36,550 feet at speeds reaching 240 miles per hour. Pakistan's navy and air force have been deployed to locate the aircraft and crew. The naval frigate PNS Zulfiqar was redirected to the last known coordinates.

K2 Airways released a statement identifying the five crew members as a pilot, a first officer, a load master, and two engineers while confirming cooperation with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority. Aviation expert Imran Aslam told ARY News he could not understand how the plane went down so abruptly instead of gliding. The aircraft had entered service with the airline in 2024.

Pakistan's last deadly aviation incident occurred in 2020 near Karachi airport.
