Kacey Musgraves Releases Seventh Studio Album Middle of Nowhere on April 30

Country singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves released her seventh studio album, titled Middle of Nowhere, on April 30, 2026, Rolling Stone reported. Musgraves, with a 14-year career, has traveled through various musical styles, and this release draws on the sounds of her home state of Texas. Willie Nelson appears on the track 'Uncertain, TX' from Middle of Nowhere.

Lambert previously released the hit song 'Mama’s Broken Heart' in 2013, which Musgraves originally penned for her first LP. Musgraves' debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, came out in 2013 and shook up Nashville’s conservative values, according to Rolling Stone. She followed with Golden Hour in 2018, which won an Album of the Year Grammy.

Subsequent releases included Star-Crossed in 2021 and Deeper Well, with Middle of Nowhere representing her best full-length since Golden Hour, the outlet stated. The title track 'Middle of Nowhere' refers to both a remote locale and a liminal life chapter, where 'There’s no reckless men/Who don’t know what they want,' Musgraves sings, as reported by Rolling Stone.

The album captures her handling past relationships with witty lines over banjo and pedal steel guitars.

Musgraves became Music City’s millennial provocateur with her debut, soaring into 'galactic country' and pop spheres in later works, Rolling Stone reported. She came back to folky ruminations on Deeper Well before this homecoming project. The collaborations, including with Nelson and Lambert, highlight country music’s key figures, with Lambert and Musgraves quipping that their past drama is 'whiskey under the bridge' on the waltzing accordion-backed track.
