Kakao Corp. Union to Picket Headquarters Over Rejected Profit-Sharing Demand

Unionized workers at Kakao Corp. will stage a demonstration outside the company's headquarters in Pangyo, south of Seoul, for about one hour starting at noon on July 21, Yonhap reported. The action marks the third collective step by the union after wage negotiations with management stalled two months earlier.

Union members plan to picket during lunch hours, though the exact number of participants remains unconfirmed. The union is seeking performance-based incentives equal to 13 to 14 percent of operating profit. Management has rejected the proposal, stating that it would place too heavy a burden on operations.

The union failed to reach agreement with management on the incentives in May. Unionized members held a partial strike in early June and a full-day strike on June 29. Kakao Corp. operates the messenger app KakaoTalk from its Pangyo base.
