Mamdani said on SiriusXM’s “The Clay Cane Show” Wednesday that the conversation was brief and that the two had been in touch over the last few months.
A source familiar with the call said Harris congratulated Mamdani on his endorsement slate.
Abbas Alawieh, co-founder of the Uncommitted Movement, posted on X Wednesday that he met Harris in Detroit after multiple phone calls from her. Alawieh said he told Harris that community members in the Michigan State Senate district he seeks had family killed in Israeli airstrikes and that his 91-year-old grandmother’s home was destroyed.
He added that he urged Harris to oppose the Israeli military’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
The district Alawieh is running for includes Dearborn. Harris also spoke with Democratic National Committee member James Zogby, New York Post reported. Harris is leading the national Democratic primary race with 27.3 percent support in the latest RealClearPolitics polling average.
