Karamo Brown Details Complications From Buccal Fat Removal, Subsequent Corrective Surgery and Weight Loss
The 45-year-old television host said a 2020s procedure left scar tissue and saliva buildup that required corrective surgery by Dr. Carl Truesdale.
Usa TodayKaramo Brown, 45, said a buccal fat removal procedure left him with painful scar tissue and saliva buildup that lasted a year and a half. Usa Today reported the account in an interview published by People magazine on Tuesday, June 2. Brown gained about 70 pounds during the COVID-19 pandemic and chose the surgery as an alternative weight-loss step.
The procedure removes fat through a small incision inside the cheek below the saliva duct and typically takes one hour, according to Usa Today. After the operation, Brown said his cheeks filled with scar tissue and saliva. "There'd be times you'd see me smile, and it was tight.
My cheeks would be big because they were full of saliva, full of scar tissue. I was in the worst pain," he told People. " He added that he sometimes stopped eating to reduce the sensation of scar tissue.
One former "Queer Eye" castmate commented on an old clip by saying, "Oh, look how handsome he used to be," Brown recalled. He said such remarks, along with online comments, added to the emotional strain. Brown later sought corrective surgery from Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr.
Carl Truesdale. The doctor removed scar tissue from Brown's cheeks and treated his saliva glands. During the same corrective procedure, Brown also underwent a blepharoplasty that removed about 60 percent of the skin under his eyes.
" he said. Brown said the corrective work ended the daily pain. "I'm so thankful because I was in pain every night, every day. It was horrendous. Thanks to this doctor, I feel so much better. I'm smiling better, there's not saliva collecting, the scar tissue's gone.
It's good," he told People. "I felt embarrassed that I did this to myself," Brown added.
