Australia's Daria Kasatkina defeated Switzerland's Susan Bandecchi 7-5, 7-6 (13/11) in the second round at the French Open. Kasatkina, ranked 53rd, saved seven match points before securing the win. She will next face world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Sabalenka beat France's Elsa Jacquemot 7-5, 6-2 after dropping serve early in the first set. Sabalenka said the match required extra effort. "That was a very tough opponent. Tricky match. I'm happy that I closed it in straight sets," she said.

Birrell lost to Ukraine's Oleksandra Oliynykova 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (10/5). Coco Gauff defeated Egypt's Mayar Sherif 6-3, 6-2. Naomi Osaka beat Donna Vekić 7-6 (7/1), 6-4.
