Kazakhstan and China Advance Nuclear Cooperation After Mutual Visits

Almassadam Satkaliyev, chairman of Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency, toured nuclear-power facilities across China to examine management practices from design through operation. He inspected the operational Tianwan plant, the Xuwei facility under construction, uranium mining and fuel production sites, and research and training centers.

Satkaliyev also held meetings with Chinese government officials and executives from major nuclear companies.

The visits occurred shortly after Wang Hongzhi, head of China’s National Energy Administration, traveled to Kazakhstan. During that trip the two countries signed a protocol outlining future nuclear energy cooperation. In 2025 Kazakhstan had already selected China’s National Nuclear Corp.

To construct two large-scale reactors in the country. Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan agreed to open a joint logistics center near Baku and to operate a combined Caspian fleet aimed at speeding freight along the Middle Corridor.

China has committed to deliver 3,000 tons of jet fuel to Kyrgyzstan, with talks under way for an additional 5,000 tons of diesel fuel.
