Keir Starmer will depart Downing Street on July 20. The Independent reported that the prime minister used his final days in office to announce several measures. Starmer announced at a Downing Street reception with the Jewish community that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Council would be banned from the UK.
He also announced the Hillsborough Law, which imposes a duty of candour on public servants connected to the 1989 stadium disaster in which 97 Liverpool fans died. Starmer further announced a trade deal with Switzerland. Earlier this month he unveiled the Defence Improvement Plan, which includes a £4.7bn funding shortfall.
Shabana Mahmood announced a change in the law to facilitate the deportation of a grooming gang leader. Starmer stated he will represent the UK government at the FIFA World Cup final if England wins next weekend and will announce a bank holiday to mark the victory.
