Kennedy Center Ordered to Remove Trump Name from Signage by June 12
Attorneys for the Kennedy Center directed staff to remove references to President Donald Trump from signage and documents. The action follows a federal judge's order last week requiring the center to revert to its prior name within 14 days.
justjared.comAttorneys for the Kennedy Center directed staff to remove references to President Donald Trump from all official signage, email signatures, letterhead, brochures and website pages. The directive instructs staff to revert to "The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts" or "the Kennedy Center." It sets a June 12 deadline for compliance.
The letter states that a federal judge ruled the board acted beyond its authority when it added President Trump's name in December. The order requires removal of all references to anyone other than John F. Kennedy. As of Thursday afternoon, President Trump's name remained on the building's exterior.
The same order addressed the board's March decision to close the center for two years beginning in July for $250 million in renovations. The judge found the decision relied on insufficient information and did not consider the full range of statutory obligations.
The order does not prohibit a future closure vote but requires proper procedures. President Trump has been involved with the center's programming since taking office for a second term.
