citizen.co.zaFormer Impala RFC player Robert Aringo, known as "Majei," died over the weekend. Tributes have been issued by teammates, clubs, and the Kenya Rugby Union. The Kenya Rugby Union stated that Aringo played for Impala RFC and joined Kenya Shujaa during the 2015-2016 season.
A former conditioning coach recalled that Aringo joined the national team as a rookie in the 2015-2016 season and was among six players on the field during the Singapore victory. The coach described him as strong and hardworking. Impala RFC assistant coach Oneal Juma Stephen said Aringo began as a player at the academy, later became a teammate, and then a coaching colleague.
Nondescripts RFC also expressed condolences, noting the loss to both Impala and the broader rugby community.
Aringo's death follows that of Stanbic Black Pirates player Sydney Gongodyo, who died from injuries after an incident in Kampala. One week earlier, Gongodyo had played in the Enterprise Cup final.
