Kevin Keegan Dies at 75 After Stage Four Cancer Battle

Kevin Keegan died on Monday at the age of 75 after a battle with stage four cancer. His family said he was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments. Newcastle United, the club he played for and later managed, confirmed the death the same day.

The Premier League side described him as one of the most iconic, influential and deeply loved figures in its history. Keegan revealed the stage four cancer diagnosis in June, seven weeks before his death. In January his family and Newcastle United had disclosed that he was undergoing treatment without naming the illness.

As a forward he won the Ballon d’Or in 1978 and 1979. He scored 21 goals in 63 appearances for England between 1972 and 1982 and captained the national team 31 times. He played for Liverpool before moving to Hamburg.

Newcastle United said he brought world-class talent to St. James’ Park as a player and gave supporters hope and pride as a manager. ” The club added that his style, spirit and passion captured the imagination of fans worldwide.
