KFC Japan may adjust menu after Nichirei cyberattack disrupts some deliveries

Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan said it may scale back its menu after a system failure at one of its logistics contractors disrupted food deliveries to stores across the country. The fast-food chain faces possible product shortages and changes to opening hours following unauthorized access to Nichirei’s systems that impacted operations at its distribution unit.
KFC’s mobile orders and delivery services have been temporarily suspended.
“The situation is fluid,” a KFC spokesperson said. ” Nichirei detected the unauthorized access on Monday, which disrupted operations at Nichirei Logistics Group and impacted frozen food shipments. The company is assessing the impact on earnings and recovery timeline.
The incident has affected other firms in Japan’s food industry. Restaurant operator Colowide is experiencing shipment delays, while retailer Aeon reports some items out of stock. Nichirei shares fell as much as 6.5 percent on Wednesday, the largest intraday drop since August 2025.
The outage adds to recent cybersecurity incidents affecting Japanese businesses, including attacks on Asahi Group Holdings and Ezaki Glico that impacted supply chains, production and customer services.
