Vinod Khosla and his wife Neeru are leading a group that has agreed to purchase the Seattle Seahawks for $9.6 billion, pending approval by NFL owners. ESPN reported the deal on July 14. Neeru Khosla will serve as the controlling owner, according to a league memo sent to teams and obtained by ESPN.
Their son Neal is expected to have a significant leadership role in the ownership group. Vinod Khosla, 71, was born in India in 1955. His father was an army officer. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi and came to the United States in 1976.
Khosla earned a master's degree in biomedical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and attended Stanford business school. In 1982 he co-founded Sun Microsystems. He launched Khosla Ventures in 2004.
Khosla Ventures purchased a 5% stake in OpenAI for $50 million in 2019. OpenAI was valued at $852 billion in March, according to Forbes.
